HIV/AIDS and Society in South Africa

In South Africa, HIV/AIDS is changing the country's social fabric. Over 5 million South Africans are living with the virus. Concerns exist on how HIV/AIDS may affect different sectors of society, possibly altering the course set for development. Is it possible that the way in which the epidemic is being fought - through health and human rights activism - is adjusting expectations of justice and equality? This book is a multidisciplinary overview of the discourse on HIV/AIDS and explores the concept of human security and the global development agenda. Contributions are drawn from a diverse group of academics and activists who examine how the epidemic intersects with politics, society, culture, and the economy in South Africa.
