HMS FAME (pennant H 78) was a destroyer of the F class that served with distinction throughout the Second World War. She was involved with the sinking of the cruiser HMS Rawalpindi by the German battle cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in November 1939, as well as sinking U353 on 16th October 1942, U69 on February 17th 1943 and U767 on the 18th June 1944. Following her career with the Royal Navy, the ship was sold to the Dominican Navy in February 1949 and renamed Generalisimo.The solid copper and brass plaque on auction features the ship's crest and motto ('fame comes if deserved') and is SCREWED together as pictured.
