Hierdie dagboek het ek aangeteken tydens die Boere se guerillastryd teen Engeland Die troepe wat onder bevel van kol R. W. C. Winsloe, C.B., uit Pretoria na Potchefstrom gekom het, het op 12 Desember 1880 by die Grootvoor ten weste van die dorp kamp opgeslaan. Die mag was 213 sterk. Die mense uit die Engelse gemeenskap en Britsgesindes, asook vroumense wat blood deur mans en rooi uniforms aangetrek is, het die kamp besoek.

Ons huis is liederlik beskadig deur kartetse en koeels en my vader het uiteindelik R4,200 skadevergoeding van die Britse regering ontvang. Nadat hulle 21 gesneuweldes en 44 gewondes verloor en hulle kosvoorraad opgeraak het, het die Britte oorgegee. Toe was die beleg van drie maande verby.
