This book is a work of the Commissariat of the Holy Land for South Africa. Its main purpose is to promote a knowledge and interest in the Holy Land, and by doing so, to promote a deeper love for Our Lord Jesus and His Mother Mary. Its goal is to promote a deeper understanding of the Catholic Faith and all the Christian places that are so important to us and central to our faith. This work would not be possible without you, who have faithfully contributed to the Good Friday Collection, which is taken up every year to support the upkeep of the Holy Land. By buying this book, you are also supporting the work that is done in the Holy Land.

This book was inspired by my own experience of going on pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2013. All the photo's in the book were taken by myself as a photographic diary of this pilgrimage. It just such a human thing to want to hold onto such special moments in life, and to take souvenirs of one kind or another. All of the pilgrims visited shops, and markets to buy rosaries, crucifixes, chalices, incense, holy oils, holy pictures and t-shirts.......and too many other items to keep count of............my most important souvenir is the photograph...........which speaks a thousand words.........but still, if it is not printed, eventually it is lost. The modern mentality is that the safest place to store things is in cyberspace or the cloud. My own opinion is that the best way to preserve photos, is still to print them..........by printing them large format and framing them, and then by publishing them in books. So, this is my effort to preserve them, but also to share them and inspire you ultimately to go yourself as a pilgrim one day to the Holy Land. I have been on many pilgrimages to many very special places, but my best experience by far was to the Holy Land, because it's here that you get to touch and see and sell and appreciate the places where all the most important events took place in the life of Christ Himself.
