A beautifully detailed high quality Ebbro model of the most disastrous F1 car of all time - the air-cooled magnesium Honda RA302.
Honda had a patchy record in F1 since its entry in 1964 although it did win a race in 1965. When the 3-litre formula was introduced in 1966, Honda produced a V12 that wasn't competitive and seriously overweight.
Their star driver, John Surtees, insisted on a lighter car so in 1968 Honda secretly produced an air-cooled magnesium car and presented it to Surtees who immediately proclaimed it undriveable and refused to use it in a Grand Prix.
Honda offered it to Frenchman Jo Schlesser at his home Grand Prix and desperate to enter, Schlesser accepted the drive. On the third lap the RA302 flew off the road and exploded due to the fuel and magnesium and Schlesser was sadly killed.
The RA302 never raced again and Honda withdrew from F1 till many years later. One car, one race, one death - doesn't get more disastrous than that sadly.
A model for all F1 fans of Honda/history and/or interesting/landmark cars. Although 1/20 scale, it displays alongside 1/18 satisfactorily. A quirky collector's addition. Very rare; retired and unobtainable/expensive.
In mint condition and supplied in its original box also perfect.
From my private collection. More interesting F1 models to come.
