Hardy, drought resistant fast growing shrub with attractive divided, strongly aromatic leaves and orange sprays of sweet smelling flowers with abundant nectar. It is a really beautiful sight when in flower. It has attractive papery pods. Can tolerate very hot, dry and frosty conditions.Attracts birds to the garden. Prune back hard after seeding. Used medicinally. Size up to 1,5 x 1m, it does need to be pruned to keep it neat and to encourage new growth. It can be planted in the informal shrub border and makes a good accent at the side of a pool. It prefers light, well-drained, good garden soil.
The large, grey-green serrated leaves are clustered towards the tips of the branches. The small, nectar rich bird pollinated flowers are borne in a short cluster, followed by a four-winged bladdery capsules which are often as decorative as the flowers.
