Honeybush tea, cyclopia genistoides (known as the original honeybush) is a shrub that thrives in sandy soil in fynbos areas.
Unlike Rooibos that can be harmful when consumed in large quantities, honeybush doesn't have the tannins and actually becomes sweeter when brewed. Its flowers can also be dried and produces a sweet, honey-like taste, hence the name.
It is advisable to scarify seeds with 1% hydrogen peroxide solution for 60 minutes and then rinse thoroughly and plant in peat germination mix and sandy soil 50, 50.
