Hornwort is a versatile, easy-to-care-for aquarium plant that enhances water quality and provides shelter for fish and shrimp. Its rapid growth and adaptability to a wide range of water conditions make it a favourite among both beginners and experienced aquarists. With its lush, bushy appearance, it's an attractive addition to any freshwater tank.

Hornwort, scientifically known as Ceratophyllum demersum, is a popular freshwater aquarium plant, known for its ease of care and its ability to improve water quality by absorbing nutrients that would otherwise fuel unwanted algae growth. This submerged, free-floating plant features a bushy, dark green appearance, making it an excellent backdrop for any freshwater aquarium or a natural hiding spot for fish and shrimp. It does not have true roots but attaches to the substrate or objects in the water through modified leaves. Hornwort can grow quite rapidly, especially with ample lighting and nutrient availability, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced aquarists.

Maximum adult size: Hornwort can grow up to 10 feet (3 meters) in the wild, but in aquariums, it typically stays around 50 cm in length due to space and nutrient limitations.

Temperament: This plant is non-aggressive and coexists peacefully with virtually all fish and shrimp species, making it a versatile choice for community tanks.

Difficulty of care: Easy. Hornwort is well-suited for a wide range of water parameters and does not require CO2 supplementation, making it ideal for beginners.

Preferred Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C, accommodating a wide variety of freshwater fish and shrimp preferences.

Preferred pH of water: 6.0 to 7.5, allowing it to adapt to most freshwater aquarium settings without the need for constant adjustment.
