This gold-colored metal plaquette was gifted to Sen. Owen Horwood, former SA Finance Minister, by the Cape Town Engraver and Die Maker Pagliari. This piece, which features Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of The Last Supper painted in the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church in Milan, came in a plastic capsule with a plastic mould, covered in a red velvet type material. The round capsule comes in a box with the Pagliari logo at the time. Included in the box is a handwritten note on a preprinted stationery.
Engraved underneath the image of The Last Supper are the words: Amen dico vobis quia unus vestrum me traditurus est. The English translation of this Bible verse is: "Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me.”
On the back of the plaqette the anniversary date is engraved together with these words: Anniversary of M Pagliary Engravers Die Makers. The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci c 1495 -98. Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan.
The plaquette measures 6cm x 4cm. I could not find any reference to a similar item on the Internet.
