Hot Fuzz (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost) (DVD)

Unquestionably five-star entertainment! This British comedy-drama is quite unlike anything you've seen before. While the main leads are played by (to me) unknown actors: smaller roles are filled by the likes of Timothy Dalton, Edward Woodward, Billie Whitelaw, Bill Nighty, Cate Blanchett, and others.

Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is a dedicated officer in London's Metropolitan Police Service. He carries out his duties so well that he makes everyone else look bad! As a result his superiors promote him to rank of sergeant — and send him off to the rural village of Sandford in Gloucestershire. Unaccustomed to the laid-back ways of a small village where petty rules are often conveniently overlooked: to-the-book Nicholas finds himself thrust in the midst of what to him seems to be the most cuckoo police force imaginable!

But then the murders start — and Nicholas is partnered in his investigations by willing though not very bright PC Danny Butterman (Nick Frost).

Don't be thrown by the daft title! This one is really good, and is maybe best summed up by the wording on the cinema poster: Big Cops. Small Town. Moderate Violence! And it's very funny too.
