The Vodafone Mobile Connect USB modem offers all Vodacom customers with desktops and laptops the easiest, most convenient way to access the Internet while mobile.

What is it?

The easy-to-use Vodafone Mobile Connect USB modem is a small 3G HSDPA enabled portable device which slots into the USB slot of any desktop or laptop running Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh - you now only need one device for all your mobile broadband Internet access needs, irrespective of the type of PC you use. The 3G HSDPA technology was built to deliver throughput speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps for downloads, but expect to experience speeds between 400 Kbps and 800 Kbps with peaks of approximately 1.2 Mbps - offering you instant Internet access with no waiting for installation!

The easy-to-use Vodafone Mobile Connect USB modem can be used by all Vodacom customers on any PC. How does it work?

The Vodafone 3G Mobile Connect USB modem is a 3G HSDPA enabled device. Where 3G HSDPA coverage is not available, customers will be able to use Vodacom's GPRS/EDGE network that already covers most of South Africa. This device is compatible with all Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh-based PCs. The required Vodafone dashboard software for Windows-based PCs to connect to the Vodacom network is already loaded available on the device and automatically installs as soon as it's plugged into the USB slot of your PC. Utilising the on-screen Vodafone dashboard compatible with Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh allows you to:

• Access, send and receive emails
• Access the Internet
• Send and receive SMS messages (charged at standard SMS rates)
• Chat using your existing Instant Messaging service
• Download large attachments speedily
• Connect to your company's network from just about anywhere
• Monitor your data usage via the "usage counter"

The volume of data you send and receive is presented on the Vodafone dashboard software, enabling you to control data costs and usage. The usage information is presented in megabytes and not as a financial value. It is an indication and may vary slightly from what appears on your bill.

Usage Counter Disclaimer

The software accompanying the Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem provides a "usage counter", aimed at giving an indication of the mobile data (in MB) that you've sent and received.

Please note that the usage counter gives as accurate a reflection of data usage as possible, but accuracy cannot be guaranteed. It should be seen as being indicative of total data usage during a given period only.

There are a number of occurrences and factors that could influence the accuracy of the data usage counter. These include, but are not limited to:

• The user manually resets the usage counters in the software
• The user reinstalls the software at any point after initial usage
• The user inserts the card into another laptop and installs the software
• The user uses the Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem/SIM card and software on multiple laptops or device
• The user connects via any means other than the "Connect" button on the Vodafone dashboard
• The user closes their laptop/desktop (closing screen) without pressing "Disconnect" on the Vodafone dashboard
• The user exits the Vodafone dashboard by clicking on the "X" button on the Vodafone dashboard software
• The user disconnects in any way other than using the "Disconnect" button on the Vodafone dashboard
• The user removes the SIM card from the USB Modem and uses the SIM card in another device for mobile data access

Please note that Vodacom will not accept any responsibility or liability for inaccurate indications of data usage on the Vodafone dashboard and any possible discrepancies between the usage counter and actual data usage that the customer may be billed for.

What do I get?

Included in the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card (VMCC) packaging is a CD, along with a user manual. The CD contains the Vodafone dashboard software that needs to be installed on your Windows-based laptop before you insert the VMCC into the PCM/CIA slot. The user manual is also available to guide you through the installation process. Please note to only insert the VMCC into the PCM/CIA slot once the software has been installed.
 

What do I need to get started?

You'll need a Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem and Vodacom SIM card, with a mobile data contract package or data bundle.

System requirements for Personal Computers (PCs):

• Specifically designed for Windows 2000 (SP2 and above), WindowsXP, Apple Macintosh.
• Compatible with Windows 98, 98SE, NT4, Vista and Apple Macintosh but certain patches may be required, click here
• Type II PC USB slot
• Memory 32MB RAM minimum, 64MB recommended
• 100MB minimum of free hard disk space

• Mobile cellular access is subject to coverage and availability of a mobile data service (GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA), and WLAN coverage and availability
• The Vodafone 3G Broadband Mobile Connect Card is not compatible with all desktops or laptops
