Huge 6.9kg Malachite Slab with Mesmorizingly Beautiful Banded Patterns
ON AUCTION IS A HUGE MALACHTE STONE SLAB. IT IS LARGE 35CM LONG AND WEIGHS 6.9KG. BEAUTIFUL BANDED PATTERNS CAN BE SEEN FROM THE SIDE.
Malachite was historically valued by ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and Greeks for pigments and protective amulets. It is a soft copper carbonate mineral and its unique banded patterns are never identical in any two pieces.
THE BANDED APPEARANCE IS CAUSED BY FLUCTUATIONS IN THE CHEMICAL CONDITIONS DURING FORMATION. THE "WAXING AND WANING" OF THE CHEMICAL SOLUTIONS REQUIRED FOR THE MINERAL TO FORM CREATE DISTINCT LAYERS.THE RESULTING PATTERNS ARE OFTEN DESCRIBED AS MESMERIZING BANDED LAYERS OR CONCENTRIC CIRCLES OR SWIRLS, MUCH LIKE THE GROWTH RINGS IN A TREE TRUNK.
DIMENSIONS: 35CM LONG 15CM WIDE 6CM HIGH WEIGHT 6.9KG

MALACHITE: CONTAINS COPPER: Malachite is a bright green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral contain 57.48% Cu in the purest form. ONLY IN GREEN: One of malachites most stand-out qualities is its deep green colour. The stone is known for its banded pattern in various shades of green. Unlike most gemstones, malachite only comes in one colour and thats green. It, however, can vary in shade from light to dark, almost black. MINED BEFORE EMERALDS: Malachite was mined before emerald for its beauty. Evidence of malachite mining has been found near the Isthmus of Suez and the Sinai as early as 4000 BC. Archaeologists have discovered that emerald, on the other hand, was mined almost 2000 years later with the first mines being identified to be from around 2000 BC. RARE: Malachite is a rare gemstone because its original source has essentially run dry. Historically, the Ural Mountains in Russia were home to some of the largest deposits, but extensive mining has gravely depleted this source over time. Only a few regions of the world are home to this stone, limiting supply and increasing the overall value. The largest source of the gem is in Africa, specifically the Democratic Republic of Congo. Additionally, small deposits exist in Australia, Arizona, and France. Malachite also forms deep underground, making labor around sourcing more expensive. The difficulty in accessing it adds to the price. RINGS OF BEAUTY: Malachite has rings known as the peacocks eye. The amount and visibility of these rings will increase the gems value. Essentially, the larger the malachite gemstone, the more prominent the rings, and the higher the price.
