HUGE 85.42CT INDIAN BLACK TO ROYAL BLUE SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE NATURAL GEMSTONE HEAT TREATED
A HUGE 89.42CT INDIAN BLACK TO ROYAL BLUE SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE WITH A OVAL FACETTED CUT. COMES WITH A BEAUTIFUL PERSPEX PRESENTATION CASE AND VELVET BAG.
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN GERMANY WITH THE ORIGEN OF THE STONE INDICATED AS INDIA. IT HAS A OPAQUE CLARITY WHICH MEANS YOU CANNOT SEE THROUGH IT. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL BUT HEAT COLOR ENHANCED INDIAN BLACK TO ROYAL BLUE SAPPHIRE GEMSTONE. ALTHOUGH THIS STONE DOES NOT HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SHAPE AND CUT AND CONDITION IT IS A REAL GEMSTONE AND OF ENORMOUS SIZE.
TESTS PERFORMED: SCRATCH TEST: IT DID SCRATCH A GLASS WINDOW PANE WHICH WOULD INDICATE IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS. (MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 TOPAZ 8.0 SAPPHIRE 9.0) I ALSO TRIED TO SCRATCH IT WITH A STEEL NAIL AND IT DID NOT SCRATCH. UV LIGHT TEST: NO UV REACTION AS EXSPECTED. (THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE.) ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT. NATURAL BLACK SAPPHIRES SHOULD SHOW AN INERT OR NO UV REACTION WHICH THIS STONE DID. GEMTESTER TEST: NO GEMTESTER TEST PERFORMED. (These testers separate gemstones from one another based on their thermal conductivity or the rate at which electricity or heat transfers through the stone and are very accurate.) CERTIFICATE: NO CERTIFICATE SUPPLIED.
SIZE: 29.7mm x 21.7mm x 11.9mm
DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT. THESE GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRIED TO VERIFY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE ANY STATEMENTS OR CLAIMS BY DOING SOME RESEARCH AND PRELIMARY TESTS ON EACH GEMSTONE.
BLACK SAPPHIRE: Black sapphire is a corundum mineral, which encompasses rubies and sapphires. These aluminum oxide minerals are colored by various impurities, like the iron and titanium impurities in black sapphire. Black sapphire is a nearly opaque stone whose color is so dark that it appears to absorb all light that enters the gemstone. Black is one of the most common sapphire colours.
Professionals consider blacks sapphires low-grade, low-quality gemstones because they are abundant and mined in large quantities. Black sapphires come mainly from Australia but Burma, Cambodja, Laos and Thailand are also producing black sapphires. Black sapphire is often associated with the mysterious and mystical. Many cultures view black gems as unlucky, sometimes associating them with evil (dangerous). Corundum was the first gem mineral to be synthesized in the lab by a process known today as flame fusion and flux growth. Synthetic rubies and sapphires are presently manufactured in enormous quantities for both industrial and gem application. However black sapphire is abundant and not commonly lab produced. The color of black sapphires is however commonly enhanced by heat treatment. Such processes are widely acknowledged within the industry and are probably today the rule rather than the exception. Reliably distinguishing among treated, untreated, natural and synthetic ruby and sapphire depends critically on microscopic examination. Large natural black sapphire stones are abundant and relative easy to obtain. Consequently, its per-carat price rise only to some extent as the size of the gem increases.
