Huge vintage, solid brass Swiss cow bell, with original leather strap with buckle.This bell is called a 'Kuhe Alpszug Glocken' which means a 'Cow Alps Travel Bell' This bell is used in a ceremony when the cows walk up to, or down from the alps. This bell is only used for this ceremony - when the shepherds also dress up in traditional clothing. It is also possible that it was a coveted prize for the 'Best Cow' in a show. For this bell to be awarded it must have been a very special bovine - maybe that is why a farmer brought it to Africa. Size: height including metal fitting at top 19cm x diametre 20.5cm.
