This work was inspired by the hordes of foreigners streaming over the borders of South Africa due to famine, political uproar, war etc. in their own countries. Through the cloth-less board and undisciplined lines that simply roles over the edge of the board, the emotional and physical no-mans land of this situation is emphasized. The thin famine figures drags their shadows behind them through a sun-struck landscape on which the fingerprints of man is clearly evident. The irregular shadows of the trees on the right and the darker clouds on the horizon leaves the viewer wondering if this walk is really towards a better future?
