The following is taken from the publisher's website : "Robert Briggs Struthers (1822-1892) was a Scotsman who emigrated to the Colony of Natal in 1849, and between 1852 and 1856 hunted on foot in the Zulu kingdom and in the regions known as Tsongaland (or Maputaland) and southern Mozambique. Thereafter he served in the Natal colonial service until his retirement in 1882. His hunting diary of the 1850's is the daily record of a small-scale workman-hunter". "In the twentieth century his accounts of daily slaughter make somewhat chilling reading, but Pat Merrett's Introduction enables today's conservation-minded reader to place Struthers firmly in the context of colonial Natal, to experience a hunter's daily life, and to understand the role of the hunter-traders in the economy and in the destruction of game".
