Gus and Margie Mills, newly married, trekked to the Kalahari to spend two years studying the little-known brown hyena. Their studies allowed them to get to know the hyena clans and their hierarchies intimately and became privy to events which only a handful of people have ever had the privilege to witness.
About the author (2010)
Gus Mills has studied African carnivores for nearly 40 years. He is the author of The Complete Book of Southern African Mammals, Kalahari Hyaenas, and Predators and Farmers. Margie Mills works with rural communities and assists her husband's research.
