Literature comes in a the form of a quick start guide as well as a detailed user manual. Last and certainly not the least, is the included CD featuring ActiveSync and Outlook for synchronizing your device.
Measuring 112.5x58x21.95mm, the JasJam is slightly taller albeit thinner than its predecessor, the K-Jam.
The front of the unit now features three additional buttons- a video call button as well as Start and OK keys which makes the JasJam much more functional with one hand usage. To further help with the navigation, the volume buttons have been replaced by a three-way jog dial with an OK button below it that helps tremendously with navigation.
Below the jog dial and OK button, you have a customizable button that, by default, is used for voice dialing and recording voice notes. You also have a micro-SD slot on this side. On the right side, i-mate places the power and connection manager buttons towards the top while a camera button is placed on the lower side. This works out nicely as you generally have the shutter on cameras right where the camera button is placed.
Finally, on the bottom, you have an IR transmitter along with the USB port that is used for three things- charging the unit, connecting it to your PC and connecting your wired headset.
Features & Usability
Starting off, the CPU is twice at fast now- clocking in at 400MHz and that certainly makes the unit feel a lot more snappier- especially when switching between portrait and landscape modes. The CPU is at as much ease watching videos on the unit as it is using Skype with the built-in Wi-Fi.
i-mate also updated the main radio in the device and the JasJam can now communicate easily with a 3G/UMTS network. 3G allows for video calling and thus, you find two cameras on this device- the front one for video calls and the back one for taking pictures. Also updated is the Bluetooth radio which is now based on the 1.2 specifications of Bluetooth and supports the A2DP profile for stereo Bluetooth transmission of audio. Wi-Fi remains the same with 802.11b/g access.
The camera is now a 2 MegaPixel unit, improved upon the 1.3 MegaPixel version on the K-Jam. There is a “flash” light for the camera.
The keyboard is also much improved over the K-Jam as the keys are bigger in size and easier to press. We found ourselves typing a lot faster on the JasJam than the K-Jam. The screen works nicely indoors and during night time.
Lastly, it has a 1300 mAh Lithium Ion Polymer battery.
JasJam is amongst the best windows Mobile devices available to date.
