Pub: HODDER AND STOUGHTON, LDN. First English translation, 1941.
Hardcover, 319 pages. 190 x 125mm wide.
Thyssen was Germany's biggest industrial magnate. He organized the passive resistance in the Ruhr in 1923. For 15 years he backed Hitler and financed the movement, and persuaded other German business men to do likewise, because he believed that Hitler would save them from Bolshevism.
Then at last came disagreement and Hitler broke him. He fled Germany and was in France when the Germans came. No one knows what happened to him since.
The cloth cover is in good condition although lightly soiled.. The spine has bleaching on it (see photo) and the top and the bottom of the spine is worn, corners bumped. Some light ware along the edges. The dust-jacket is severely damaged and should not be considered as part of the purchase but will be sent with the book .
Internally there are no inscriptions but there is a note written neatly in the 'Publisher's Forward' - "Thyssen was arrested in France 1940 with his wife and held in camps till 1945. On release went to live in Argentina, where he died in 1951. His wife and daughter inherited his fortune." (Relevant - as at the time of publishing it was not known if he was still alive)
The fep has split from the cover but is not loose (opposite sub-title page) - otherwise binding still sound. There is light foxing on the inside of the covers, f & b eps, subtitle pages - please note the foxing depicted in the photos appears worse than it is. Internally generally clean but with light tanning. Page edges lightly browned and spotted.
