There are some cities of the world that have improved with the passage of time; there are others that have been ruined. And there are yet other other cities which, while they have advanced in a purely material and physical sense, have in the process lost much of their original charm and personality.
It is widely felt that Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa, falls into the latter category, and there are many Capetonians today who will recall with nostalgia the City they knew in their youth. One such person is George Manuel, journalist and author.
