I felt Gibson move back towards his usual style and structure pre-Virtual Light. I now think of Virtual Light as an experiment, an anomaly. Gibson treads familiar ground here with a focus on virtual spaces, cool physical spaces, identity, and emerging AI. And Gibson's in rare form with early uses of anime-loving Otaku, Love Hotels, (Kowloon) Walled City, and virtual idols (20 years before Hatsune Miku made her IRL debut).
