Im dunkelsten Afrika - Henry Morton Stanley

The full title is "Im dunkelsten Afrika. Aufsuchung, Rettung und Rückzug Emin Pascha's, Gouverneurs der Aequatorialprovinz". Volumes 1 and 2 complete, 3rd edition published 1890 by F.A. Brockhaus, Gothic print, no jackets. The decorative boards with gilt titling of both volumes are square and sharp, with mild sunning to the spines. Volume 1 contains the contemporary name of a previous owner written three times on the initial few pages, including once on the title page, with an ink stamp. This volume contains an intact facsimile hand-written letter by Stanley to the publisher, F.A. Brockhaus. Volume 2 contains similar ownership marks, as well as three removable maps in a rear pocket. The pages of both volumes are mildly tanned, but otherwise clean and unmarked.
