Images of War - Peter Badcock - 1981, first edition - Graham Publishing, Durban - 112p - Previous owner's signature on first page - Hardcover and dustcover in good condition, but shows some rubbing - Tightly bound, shows some very light taning through-out the book; could be because of quality of paper used.

Large format and heavy book: will require extra postage.

Images of War is a poignant exploration of the experience of South Africans at war; not this time in global conflict that left the country's dead in German Africa, Europe, Asia and beyond, but instead along her northern borders, her back to the sea, her face to Africa. Through the evocatively complementary media of art and verse, Images is a stirring chronicle or powerful emotion that takes no political position. It provides, also, a bridge between those who serve and those who wait for their return.

Following the extraordinary success of his previous two bestsellers, shadows of War and Faces of War, in which war artist, Peter Badcock, graphically recorded the deeply moving and savage Rhodesian conflict, Images examines the spectrum of emotion generated in the heat and bushveld isolation of South and South West Africa's northern border. The work reflects the stark reality of the situation in searching detail, underlining the tension and high drama of the war. Uniquely, also provides a detailed and illustrated glossary of the weapons in daily use by both sides in the conflict, and traces the regiment and service history of South and South West Africa's battalions.
