Glycyrrhiza glabra
It is a legume that is native to southern Europe and parts of Asia. The root is used to make liquorice or licorice. Intravenous glycyrrhizin has antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, and blood-pressure increasing effects.Its major dose-limiting toxicities are corticosteroid in nature, due to the inhibitory effect its chief active constituents, glycyrrhizin and enoxolone, have on cortisol degradation and include oedema, hypokalaemia, weight gain or loss, and hypertension.

The Chinese pharmacopoeia lists poria as contraindicated in polyuria, spermatorrhoea, and urogenital prolapse. Information regarding safety and efficacy in pregnancy and lactation is lacking.
