Impressive 'Order of Odd Fellows Manchester Unity' Ceremonial Collar
This heavy, impressive, very well-made ceremonial collar (very similar to a Mayoral Chain) features a long, gilded metal or solid brass necklace, with sixteen shield shaped plaques linked together, with four plaques, featuring 'crossed feathers or quills' in between. Then there's two plaques featuring 'shaking hands', one on each side of a large, detailed, in relief and enamel plaque with the words 'INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS M.U.' around the outside, and 'PROVINCIAL TREASURER' in the centre. Hanging from this is a large, heavy, enamelled jewel or pendant, again with lovely, raised detail, and the words or letters 'IOOF' and 'MU'. These are all held together with a double linked chain in between the panels and then all attached to a lovely thick purple velvet sash. The long collar or sash measures roughly 55cm from top to bottom of the pendant, with a sash width of 8cm, and the bottom pendant on its own measures 67mm x 60mm x 5mm. This impressive piece is in excellent condition and weighs 475g.
