Impressive WW1 'For the Freedom of Mankind' Iron Photo Frame
This scarce, original, top quality WW1 metal hanging photo frame to commemorate a fallen soldier, appears to be either cast in a heavy iron or bronze metal. It has been beautifully cast in relief with amazing detail, with an oval hole in the centre to display a photograph of a first world war casualty. It features a lovely image of 'Britannia' holding an oak spray with leaves and acorns, and along the bottom, the dates '1914 &1918' with the words 'FOR THE FREEDOM OF MANKIND' in between. The top corners feature a battleship, submarine, a tank, and a fighter plane. The back is impressed with the maker and registration number 'MAN 'F'D BY BOOTH & BROOKES LIMITED. BURNHAM ON CROUCH' and 'RD NO. 665906'. 'Booth & Brookes' was an iron works company established in 1899 in Essex England, known for making piano frames, and the registration number dates this piece to 1918. The frame is in great condition and is fitted with what appears to be the original chain. It measures 29cm x 23,5cm and weighs a heavy 1890g. In my opinion, this is a rare Great War piece, as I've never seen or come across one like it before.
