2000 first edition large hardcover with 479 pages in very good condition. Anglo-Boer War, Anglo-Boereoorlog. R65 paxi or R100 courier / postnet in SA.

This book is an attempt to record the particulars of every Imperial serviceman who died as a result of the war. By Imperial it is meant all those servicemen, women and civilians who were in military employ, all of whom assisted directly or indirectly in the cause for Great Britain. These people came from the British Isles, South Africa, Rhodesia, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, as well as a few from distant parts of the British Empire.

During the course of the compilation of In Memorium many errors and/or differences were encountered in spelling when consulting primary sources. Furthermore, this problem was exacerbated where additional errors/differences were observed in the inscriptions seen on the more recent memorials erected in cemetaries. This book attempts to rectify these errors.

In particular, in cases with misspelt names, it is the opinion of the author that the name in the NAME column is the one preferred while the alternative spelling  appears in the REFERENCE column, where initials are seen to differ, then the correct initial(s) are given first in the INIT column followed by/after which a second set of initials are given an alternative.

Furthermore the REMARKS and REFERENCE columns are used for additional specifications. In general the REMARKS column contains the particulars of age, grave number, exhumation, religion, company or troop, corps, date of wounded or injury. The REFERENCE column is used for noting the alternative spelling of the serviceman's name (see above), or for other designation of regiment or corps. This column can also include the details normally seen in the REMARKS column, which cannot be incorporated owing to insufficient space. It was not uncommon to observe individual memorials on which the date of death is consistent with the date of burial which was one or two days later. These inaccuracies too have been identified and corrected.

In Memorium is a work derived from the use of the electronic media. The computer database was an excellent means to sort and to discriminate against unwanted material. Due to constraints on the width of the columns, it became necessary to use abbreviations and codes wherever possible.

It is hoped that in publishing this book the listing of more than 25,000 servicemen and women who laid down their lives for a cause they believed in, will enhance the idea that their endeavours shall never fade.
