Beaumont, who dates his signature 15 June 1881. At that time Beaumont was the Magistrate at the town of Newcastle in Natal and leader of the "Memorialists" anxious to preserve the neutrality of Newcastle in the dispute between the Imperial Government and the Transvaal due to their business links with the latter. Beaumont was known to Norris-Newman and is referred to in other writings by this author. There are also two neat signatures of a previous owner after Beaumont.
