India, Bengal Presidency, Emperor Shah Alam II, 1-Pice of 1797
In 1765 Mughal Emperor Shah Alam gave the British East India Company gifts in Bengal, Orissa, and Bihar. This made the company basically responsible to the Emperor. The period known as the Bengal Presidency lasted until 1835.
I received two coins in an old paper envelope stating that they are Half Annas struck at the Birmingham Mint in 1782. However, I am of the opinion that they are actually One Pice coins from the reign of Emperor Shah Alam II (1728 – 1806)
Bidding is per coin.
