IN THE TIME OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION OF THE 1930'S IN THE USA. SURVIVAL WAS THE ONLY THING ON PEOPLES MINDS. WATCHMAKING COMPANIES WERE FALLING BY THE WAYSIDE AS NOT MANY COULD AFFORD TO BUY WELL MADE JEWELLED WATCHES. SO THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THAT. THIS PIN LEVER WATCH MADE IN THE USA BY THE INGRAHAM WATCH CO WITH PATENT PENDING.THIS IS STAMPED ON THE WATCH AND DIAL.THEY PUT ALL THERE EFFORT IN TO PRODUCE A WATCH THAT COULD BE AFFORDED BY THOSE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A JOB. THE AVERAGE PAY WAS A DOLLAR A DAY. THESE WATCHES BECAME KNOWN AS THE DOLLAR WATCHES.
This Ingraham watch made in Bristol, Conneticut has been in storage for an extremely long time but it was always a watch that I wanted to get going again but it never got to my good old watchmaker friend before he retired. To me its a very special watch that has history and nostalgia and is very different in many ways especially when you put it on your wrist. This watch is all original and intact, balance staff is good and everything else is pretty dry from standing all these years and who knows how long that is. The chrome case measures 30mm including crown, lug to lug 45mm and 8mm thick. It has some obvious wear especially on the back, crystal has yellowed over time. Will need a good service and crystal. Never the less it is not trying to hide its age and has lots to still show off about, especially to the modern world of watches. It is very unique and screams vintage and you not going to see another one like it. If I had this watch refurbished there is no way it would be put up for sale or auction. When I look or put it it on my wrist it reminds me of what can happen in life and also not to take anything for granted. All I have done is give it a wipe and fitted a new vintage black leather strap.
I am starting this auction at R50 with R50 bids and whether you want it as a project watch or just to put in your collection is up to you. I have described it as best I can and you understand that you are bidding on it AS IS.
NB. I reserve the right to close this auction, delete suspect bids as this is for serious bidders only. Its your duty to read the description before bidding.
