Prof. Johannes Christiaan Coetzee, algemeen bekend as J. Chris Coetzee was rektor van die PU vir CHO en skrywer van talle vakkundige werke oor die opvoedkunde.
Hy is in 1953 as rektor van die Potchefstroomse Universiteit vir Christelike Hoër Onderwys (nou deel van Noordwes-Universiteit) aangestel, deur prof. Joon van Rooy op te volg. Hy het hierdie pos beklee tot 1964.
Gedurende sy tydperk as rektor het hy lande in Europa besoek om te leer hoe universiteite wêreldwyd funksioneer. Hy het hom bearbei vir Christelike Nasionale Onderwys. Terwyl hy rektor was, het hy voortgegaan om geadviseerde nagraadse studente op die gebied van opvoedkunde te onderrig.
In hierdie tydperk het hy ook boeke oor die onderwerp van opvoedkunde geskryf.
