Herbal Sleep Tincture Insomnia Drops, assists from minor sleep problems, insomnia to fatigue. Has sedative and calming effects.
Our product includes Lemon Balm, Valerian and Lavender Blossom. Lemon balm is often used to treat minor sleep problems and nervousness. Clinical trials have shown that Valerian is not only highly effective in treating insomnia, but could also help improve the quality of sleep involved. Lavender is well known for its sedative and calming effects.
The formulation includes a number of herbs which are known to be beneficial for sleep problems, insomnia and fatigue to maximise the efficacy of the product.
We use vegetable glycerine as our base as it is diabetic friendly (does not cause blood sugar to spike). It also has less side effects than ethanol (alcohol) traditionally used in tinctures. In addition vegetable glycerides are more palatable.
Dosage:
2.5ml dissolved in water, before bedtime
Cautions:
- Do not use if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients - if allergic reaction occurs discontinue use.
- It is best not to use lemon balm over a long period of time, in excess of one to three months.
- Do not take if pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver disease.
- Not advisable to use if taking medications that control blood pressure or with any form of hormonal therapy.
- Don't take with the medication levodopa (L-dopa).
- Do not exceed the recommended dose as high doses have been reported to cause central nervous system paralysis.
- Check with your doctor before using if you are on prescription medication.
- St John's wort is known to interact with a large number of medications (anticonvulsants, ciclosporin, digoxin, HIV medication, MAOIs, SSRIs, antifungals, theophylline, anticoagulants, oral contraceptives and the triptans).
- St Johns Wort can cause photosensitivity.
- Avoid taking any alcohol whilst using this remedy.
- Do not use at the same time as other medications that have a sedative effect. This includes antidepressants, benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants, or narcotics.
- Do not drive, or engage in any activity where lack of concentration could be dangerous, for up to 2 hours after ingesting.
- Overdose may cause headache, nausea, altered heartbeat, blurred vision and restlessness.
- For some people valerian can act as a stimulant instead of a sedative.
- Possible side effects of valerian can include headache, excitability, stomach upset, uneasiness, lower body temperature, reduced concentration and morning drowsiness.
- Do not use continuously for more than 2 months, as insomnia can occur after prolonged use.
- Keep out of reach of children.
