Charmaine was born into an artistic family. Her mother, a well-known sculptor in England and grandmother an artist in Rhodesia, grew up with the love and aprreciation for art. Once her three children were living their own lives, she pursued her great love - art. Charmaine was tutored by the late Errol Boyley, spending many hours in his studio where she had the most amazing and unique opportunity to learn first hand from one of South Africa's masters. This gave her an excellent grounding and much inspiration which is reflected in her dramatic skies, dreamy farmland scenes and expansive landscapes. Charmaine is well known for her Midlands scenes; landscapes with big atmospheric skies, picturesque farmlands and peaceful cattle. Much of the subject matter for Charmaine's vibrant flower painting is found in the garden of Arundowne Cottage where there is always a profusion of colour. Many hours of walking the beaches of the South Coast with its rugged rocky coastline and aqua sea with its changing moods are a great inspiration for her seascapes.
