FAMOUS SA ARTIST JOE MARAIS - MASSIVE ACRYLIC ON BOARD - FRAMED IN A BEAUTIFUL GILT FRAME

Joe was born in Beaufort West, but spent his childhood in Kwa-Zulu Natal. After he qualified as a teacher he taught at Empangeni in Zululand for thirteen years, where he also started his painting career. Although he has had no formal art training, a natural talent and love for drawing led him to start sketching and painting. Inspired by the natural beauty of the fauna and flora of Africa, his creative abilities grew and he gradually developed his own style in his preferred mixed medium of acrylics and pastels. While resident in KZN, he presented art classes and art demonstrations to members of various art societies. Locally Joe Marais has had many one-man exhibitions all over the country, as well as group exhibitions at "Art in the Park" in Pietermaritzburg, Kirstenbosh in Cape Town and Zoo Lake in Johannesburg, to name but a few. In 1993 a Joe Marais painting was chosen to adorn the back cover of the Reader's Digest June issue. In 1995 he was invited to exhibit at the "Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibition" which is one of the largest international outdoor art exhibitions in the world. He has also exhibited successfully in Central Park, New York, Canada and London. As a result of his international exhibitions, his paintings can now found in the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia.
