The piece is signed:  "CASPER D (Casper Darare) SA 47"

The base of the bust measures approximately 5 cm in length, 3,5 cm wide, 9,5 cm high and weighs approximately 250 grams (excluding packaging).

The bust is in a very good condition.

The item is a very attractive and a real gallery piece and my pictures do not do true justice to the real beauty of this piece.

 Back ground information:

Casper Darare (1052 - 2001) is a South African artist of Shona descent. He became to prominence when he carved a bust of the late Richard Burton in the 1970's. The European Royalty commissioned him to carve busts. Casper D was known as a consummate sculptor who could capture the essence of the various people of Southern Africa. His work has that serenity and dignity that made him sought after. The attention to detail and finish have made his work popular gallery pieces at home and abroad.

Since the 1970's, his work have been exibited in major galleries in South Africa, the United States, Holland, United Kingdom and Singapore. His work is sought by collecters worldwide - as does Queen Elizabeth's collection include some of his work. He has had sell out exhibitions in New York, Paris and London.

Casper Darare supplied original busts to Spirit of Africa who had the license to distribute limited bronze casts of his work worlwide.

His premature death cut short the career of a man who was rated as one of the top ten sculptors in the world.
