THE AGE IS QUITE OBVIOUS ON THIS PIECE - HAS A MINOR EDGE LOSS WHICH IS TO BE EXPECTED ON THESE OLD ORIGINAL PIECES

Artist: Gotogei Kunisada-ga

Utagawa Kunisada ( , 1786-1865; also known as Toyokuni III)

Examiner seal (the round seal above the publisher seal): Kiwame (examined), in use 1815 to V/1842, not useful to narrow down the date, but the terminus ante quem, before which date is 1842.

Publisher seal: Ezakiya, in use 1807-45. This is Ezakiya Kichibei ( ), in operation from ca. 1773 to IV/1852 in the Nihonbashi district of Edo.

This print is from an untitled series of triptychs on the Twelve Month, which this publisher handled ca. 1816.

This is part of a triptych, the Sixth Month: A Sudden Shower on the Way Home from the Fuji Festival (Minazuki Fuji-gaeri yūdachi ; ), with the suggested date of about 1815, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Minazuki in the old calendar is July, which is now June
