"TRIBUTE TO COURAGE"

Township artists were honoured and their work is being showcased in the "Tribute to Courage" project, an initiative of the Messengers Workshop in Soweto and the Department of Arts, Culture and Heritage Services within the City of Johannesburg.
 
The twenty-five township artists, who are all over the age of 40 and who have independently sustained themselves as working artists for many years, have taken part in the exhibition, which was being unveiled in Soweto.

Of the 25 artists 8 were commissioned to construct a sculpture, 8 have painted murals whilst the remaining nine will be hosting an exhibition of their paintings. Belinda Hlaka will curate the exhibition; she will be supported by Percy Sedumedi.

The artists involved in the project are: Abe Mathabe, Anthony Nkotsi, Agrippa Nhlapo, Barney Nkosi, Basil Baqwa, Charles Nkosi, Christina Misani, Cyril Louw, Eric Mbatha, Gordon Gabashane, Isaac Magi, Jeff Zulu, Joe Ndlovu, Kenneth Nkosi, Lugile Phambo, Mboya Moshidi, Meshack Khonkhe, Monty Mahobe, Moses Tshepo Sibeko, Muzi Donga, Mvemve Jiyane, Napo Suki Kikine, Nathaniel Mokgotsi, Percy Konqobe, Peter Mazibuko, Solly Maphiri, Sthando Sondezi, Tau O.R.Qwelane, Thulile Bhengu and Tony Minaar.
