On a recent trip to the USA I was fortunate enough to acquire x2 of these new 16 GB Apple iPhone 3G from private sellers, however with the unlock not yet being available I am becoming rather impatient and would thus prefer to sell them and buy again for myself at a later stage.
This phone is not available for outright purchase in the USA & you can only buy the phone from private sellers who acquired their phone on a contract or upgrade and are now selling it privately which is perfectly legal in the USA.
In the few European Countries where this phone is currently available on pay as you go the selling price is already reaching in excess of 800.00 Euro.
It is rumored that only the 8GB (not 16GB) will be available in South Africa sometime this year from certain SA cell phone service providers - however speak to them & there is no confirmation date as to when the phone will be launched, the price it will sell for or the type of contract that one may be required to sign in order to acquire one.
If the USA prices are any indication - than for one of the cheapest contracts for new subscribers it's an initial $299.00 with a 24 month contact at $69.00 a month and an activation fee of between $18.00 - $36.00 which brings you to around $1,973.00 (+/- R15,000.00) give or take a few R.

RE: The Warranty - Here's the honest truth - Please do not be fooled - the moment these phones are unlocked or exported the warranty is void and anyone claiming to offer an official Apple warranty for an unlocked or imported phone is mistaken & in all honesty unless I am mistaken that applies to all unlocked unofficially imported iPhones currently being sold in South Africa.
A non Apple retail outlet etc selling these phones may offer you a service warranty etc, but it will never be an official Apple warranty.
