Ipod Classic - 80gb [A1238] 7th Gen - doesnt get past charging screen

This was my personal ipod classic 80gb purchased new and hardly used

I havent used it for a few years and recently charged it up.  It takes charge on a generic charger but wont get past that screen.  On googling it, the fault appears to have been fixed for some users by them utilising the original firewire charger as it provides slightly more charge.  Mine is a generic charger.

The item has never been dropped neither has it been opened or assessed.  All i can say is it was purchase new by myself, boxed shortly after and never used since

It will be sold on its own with no charger or box
