You may come across some beautiful jewellery with pink, blue and green translucent striped stones. These are called Rainbow or Iris glass rhinestone or diamante. Originally made in the late 1800s in glass to replace the original gemstones found along the Rhine river in germany that have this characteristic stripe coloring. These Iris gemstones were becoming harder to find and so the jewellery makers turned to the artificial glass type. It can be found in many brooches, rings, necklaces and is worth collecting as will increase in value and you may also find the original gemstone Iris in Victorian jewellery that is of course worth a lot more in value.
