A left over lid from long ago - antique?
I have not managed to identify this pattern - if you have any knowledge I would appreciate any information!
It seems to be ironstone transferware, typical of the Staffordshire manufacturers, and the pattern resembles "Damascus, Syria" with the minarets and the camel.
It is a beautiful item. I found it at a flee market sale, well wrapped and preserved. It is a beautiful item in it's own right.
It has no crazing - which is probably due to the bowl being smashed and the lid being kept in storage.
See below for hairline crack and a chip.
Outer rim 17.5cm diameter and the inner rim 12cm.
Will fit a bowl of 16cm diameter.
Height 11.7cm
Detail of the rim.
Crack is visible on top.
A hairline crack from the edge to a just beyond the handle - does not extend across.
Chip on inside edge.
