Italian Fascist WW2 Era MVSN Dagger.
This is a rare original WW2 Italian Fascist MVSN Black Shirt EM dagger in very good condition, with a beautiful strong and clean blade showing no signs of post-factory sharpening and no edge or point damage.
This weapon was utilized both as a service and dress weapon. The hilt has a solid wooden grip contoured with 4 finger recesses. Two steel rivets protrude through the grip to the blade tang to secure the blade into place. The crossguard is steel as is the upper retaining plate on the top of the grip. The scabbard is pressed steel, bearing the raised emblem of the MVSN which is a fasces over the letters “MVSN” - which was the Fascist Party Militia at that time (Milizia Volontaria Sicurezza Nazionale).
The steel blade is 200mm long and has the typical Fascist blade profile with full length edge along the bottom and partial edge on the top. Overall length of the knife, without the scabbard, is 320mm.
What makes this MVSN dagger unique is the wooden handle that has been delicately carved on all 4 faces – one narrow face has the word ‘DUCE’ and the 2 broad faces have various symbols, including floral and bird engravings.
The steel scabbard shows some minor surface pitting and a small ding on the MVSN emblem side – see photo. P&P R50
