Anglo-Egypt Sudan Campaign. Private with 1st Northumberland Fusiliers.
Anglo-Boer War. Private with 1st Northumberland Fusiliers.
First World War. Private with 5th South African Infantry in East Africa and Sergeant with 4th South African Infantry in France.
No records can be found on St. Clair for the Sudan Campaign or for the Boer War.
Seven pages of St. Clair’s WWI service have been copied from the archives and form part of this sale (one page in images). He was with the South African Expeditionary Force sent to German East Africa in 1916. He became ill with sceptic sores at Dakawa, was sent home and discharged. He was awarded the Silver War Badge. He re-attested in 1917, was sent to France and promoted to acting sergeant. He was discharged again at the end of 1917 as being permanently unfit.
