German Colony gold 15 Rupien 1916-T MS64 NGC, Tabora mint, KM16.2. Arabesque below the A. A popular type of gold emergency coinage that was struck during the East African Campaign of WWI, at which time German troops were pitted against British and Belgium forces. Struck in Tabora, the administrative center of central German East Africa, now present day Tanzania, these crudely-minted coins feature a majestic, roaring elephant with mountains behind and the emblematic imperial eagle of Germany.
