A Space for Landscape 2015 Standard Bank Gallery Exhibition Poster, giclée print, 59.5 cms x 83.3 cms, condition: as new.

J.H. Pierneef: A Space for Landscape | curated by Wilhelm van Rensburg:
7 July - 12 September 2015
at the Standard Bank Gallery, Johannesburg
J.H. Pierneef: A Space for Landscape brings together a wealth of paintings and prints, from numerous collections, to create the first major Pierneef exhibition in many years.

Jacobus Hendrik Pierneef  shocked the traditionalists in 1928 by including some "abstract moderns" in an exhibition or as some called them " Futuristic". The image on this poster being a prime example. These were not as well received as his 'traditional' work and solicited negative reviews. In 1929 Pierneef was commissioned to paint the twenty eight panels for the new Johannesburg Park Station Building which kept him occupied for the next three years. He however continued working on exhibitions, also designed catalogues and brochures. The Station panels were completed in 1932 and are still on display and are seen as one of his career highlights. In 1933 he received his second commission for seven murals for South Africa House off Trafalgar Square, London, which he finished in 1934. Back in South Africa he was painting again and had major exhibitions in Cape Town and Pretoria in 1935. He died in 1957.
