This basket hilt sword bears the stamp of J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd, Late Edward Thurkle, 53 Conduit St. London. Some parts of the stamp has faded away. It also has the proof slug with the T in the centre which is usual proof of Thurkle swords. The fullered blade has decorative markings and the Edward VII cipher is repeated on the blade. The markings are on both sides of the blade

The hilt of the sword is about 15 cm. The blade in the scabbard measures about 87 cm and without the scabbard it is about 83 cm. The hilt carries the Edward VII cipher. It has a metal scabbard with two rings.
Condition: The scabbard shows many rust spots, especially on the one side. The hilt also shows rust The blade, however is in a good condition considering its age and only shows extensive wear and tear where the scabbard meets the hilt. The decorative markings on the blade are still clearly visible and free from scratches. I could not find any number on the blade. The twisted wire and shagreen grip also seems in a good condition but shows rust spots on the metal parts.
