2008 celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Repeal of National Prohibition and the 70th anniversary of the reopening of the Jack Daniel Distillery. In honor of these dates, Jack Daniel's is pleased to release these special bottles which symbolize important events in the history of Jack Daniel's.
National Repeal in 1933 didn't change much in the Hollow. Tennessee law still prohibited the distillation and consumption of spirits for another 5 years. To get the distiller up and running again, Mr. Jack's nephew, Lem Motlow, had to do the unthinkable - he became a politician. Lem won a seat in the State House and worked to changed the laws in Tennessee so he could reopen the Jack Daniel Distiller. Finally, in November of 1938, the Jack Daniel Distillery reopened its doors. Lem went back to making their whiskey the way his Uncle Jack made it and the way they still do it today - mellowing it drop by drop through 10 feet of hard sugar maple charcoal with the same care, craft and quality that go into every drop of their Tennessee Whiskey.
