This is a lovely and unusual piece. The lid features a dragon, and Lions adorn the sides. The artist's stamp on the base is worn but still visible. I bought this piece from the seller as a jade item.

A SHORT HISTORY
The burning of incense permeates Asian history. It was burned to honor ancestors, treat ailments and for religious and spiritual rituals. Incense burners are lit in temples and sacred places during prayer to purify the air & promote the flow of chi. Censers were made of many different materials like bronze, stone, jade, ceramics and wood. Prices have increased dramatically in recent years.  A censer that once cost several hundred yuan could fetch thousands of yuan, or dollars, today. (Wang Jie, Expert & Collector)
