Hardcover published by C. Struik (Pty) Ltd, 1970, no jacket. The faux leather boards are clean, square and unmarked, with gilt title and publisher's logo. An ex-libris sticker is stuck to the inside front decorative paste-down, and the name of a previous owner is written twice in flowing pen on two following pages. All other pages are virtually as new, including two fold-out illustrations. This copy is number 380 of 1500 limited edition copies. The author of the journal was a Scottish officer with the 93rd (Highland) Regiment of Foot at the Cape of Good Hope, for three years between 1811 and 1814. The journal also covers his part in the British attempt to capture New Orleans in 1815.
