In 1961 the new Republic of South Africa , had 10 miniature figures of famous South African Historical Personalities made for CALTEX BY SAE SWEDISH AFRICAN ENGINEERS of Cape Town, each model was hand carved by I Mitford of Barberton.
The set with the title 'South African Heritage-Builders of a Nation' was produced at one figure every two weeks .
Each of the figurines are hand painted and is between 53-58 mm high and are 52 years old this year.
There are figures of Jan van Riebeeck, Mary la Quellerie, Bartholomew Diaz, Simon van der Stel, Lady Anne Barnard , Jacob de Mist, Thomas Pringle, Sir Benjamin D' Urban and Piet Retief.
